The Loiyangalani Trust was founded in late 2009 by a small group of people in West Hoathly, West Sussex. One of the group had visited Loiyangalani several times and wanted to help the local community through education. Loiyangalani is so far north of the capital of Kenya, Nairobi, that it receives very little regular support from other larger charities.
We are now a registered charity. We take no money from the trust for administration, and the website and leaflet have been funded through recovered Gift Aid.
Mary - I lost my dad in 2019 and my mother is incapacitated. Marrying me off to an old rich man in exchange for 8 cows by my relatives was the next easiest and certain thing... so i wept. I had lost hope in education. I appreciate The Loiyangalani Trust, who sponsor my education. My hope and desire to be a doctor is now revived!
Daniel - My parents are very poor, with no means to educate me. Dropping out of school was becoming a reality. Thanks to The Loiyangalani Trust, who funded my education from high school to teacher training college. Now I am happy working as a trained teacher at Loiyangalani primary school, and helping my family!
